7 Random Facts

1. I love sports. I'm a sports editor at a local newspaper and I love my job. I've known since third grade that I wanted to be a sports writer. I went to school at Penn State and got my degree then came back home and started working at my local paper.


2. I'm a huge fan of the show Doctor Who. I've been watching the original since I was a kid. It used to be shown on Saturdays at 11 p.m. on PBS. Back then it took weeks to get through an episode. I do watch the newer version, although I confess I did boycott it for awhile. I love the new show, but the older version is still my favorite. In fact, I named my boston terrier, Zoey, after one of the characters.


3.  I'm a speed reader. No really. I read very quickly and can finish a very thick book in a couple of hours. My love of reading goes back to when I started getting my first books from my first grade class. I used to take one home, read it and bring it back the next day. My teacher didn't believe I read it, so she used to quiz me on what the book was about. I'm also a fantastic Jeopardy player because I can read the question before Alex Trebek even gets it out.


4.  I met my husband at a high school wrestling tournament. He was working at a different paper and we both were covering different schools at a regional tournament. I was deathly ill with pneumonia and he offered to finish my results up for me so I could go home. Later that year we started dating and got married in 2006. He's a fantastic husband and I'm lucky to have him.


5. My favorite color is blue. I love blue. My car is blue. My favorite baseball team's colors are blue. In fact, 80 percent of my wardrobe is blue. The colors in my wedding were blue. Well, you get the picture.


6.  I have an obsession with Uga, the mascot from the University of Georgia. My living room is painted Georgia red and I have photos of Uga up everywhere. My husband bought me my first one for our second Christmas together and I've continued to collect them. I even have a framed photo of Russ, the mascot who has been filling in while they find a new Uga.


7. I hate shoes and socks. I love being in my bare feet. I can't wear socks on my feet when I sleep, even in winter. It makes me feel too constricted. The day it gets even remotely warm enough for sandals, I put them on. I love to be able to wiggle my toes and walking in the grass in bare feet makes me happy.

The Questions

1. Favorite Song: Come on Eileen. Followed very closely by Snoopy and the Red Baron. I love both songs and crank the radio up every time I hear them.

2. Favorite Dessert: Creme Brulee. I had it once at Disney World and now anytime a restaurant has it where I go, I get it. Love it!!

3. What drives you insane: People who abuse animals, especially dogs. I have complete faith that someday they will get what's coming to them.

4. When I'm Mad: Watch out. I can be a handful. But once I'm done, I don't hold a grudge.

5. Favorite pet: All my puppies!! Tuggers, Smidgens, Zoey, Zeke and Brinlee. They're all my favorites!

6.Black or white: White! Nothing looks better than a crisp white shirt with jeans.

7. Biggest fear: Slugs. No really. They scare the absolute crap out of me. I once had an anxiety attack so bad I almost passed out.

8. My daily attitude: Optimistic. 

9. What's perfect? My family. My husband and my puppies are the best things that have ever happened to me. I love them all immensely.

10. Guilt: iced tea, oreo blizzards and Ke$ha.

CATRICE - Blue Cara Ciao

A couple of weeks ago, I did a swap with my friend Laura from the Netherlands. She lives very close to Germany, so she has access to polishes like Catrice. For those who don't know about Catrice, it's a German-made brand that retails for around $3 US. Their formula is awesome and now I have several thanks to Laura!!

Today's polish is a blue called Blue Cara Ciao. It reminds me of what deep blue water looks like.

First off, let me say that I only had one Catrice before my swap with Laura and I loved it. The formula is awesome and I like the brushes even though they are smaller than OPI brushes. This too was a dream to apply.

For my base coat I used Essie's all in one base. Then I added two coats of Blue Cara Ciao and a top coat of Seche Vite. There are no problems with shrinkage like Seche seems to do with some other brands.

In the picture above, I filled in the spots where the flash looked funny. It bothered me to see so much white, so that's why the nails look almost matted.

Here's a pic of what the color looks like in natural light. It was dark out the day I took my pics, so I don't have any outdoors. This is a great blue. It's very vivid and I think it would look awesome on any skin type. For those ladies who haven't tried a true blue nail polish yet, this is a great shade to try. Although Catrice isn't sold in the United States, if you are involved on the polish boards and can find someone awesome like Laura, you may be able to do a swap!

Purple Nails for EMILY!!!

Today, I have a very special post for you!! I have been following the story of a local child who was diagnosed with leukemia. Emily Whitehead has not only become a very big inspiration to me, she has become my hero. Em is the toughest seven-year-old you will ever hear about. She has overcome the odds and her fight has become the fight of not only a small town and surrounding towns, but as you will see later on, worldwide.

In honor of Emily's seventh birthday, I have organized a worldwide Purple Nails for Emily Day today. Let me just say I was pretty overwhelmed with the response. I wasn't surprised at the local support for Emily. We live in a small town and it's just our nature to want to take care of one of our own. But when I started getting emails from across the country and foreign countries from people who wanted to take part, it literally made me teary-eyed.

I painted my nails with China Glaze Spontaneous. It's a beautiful purple color. And, since Emily's favorite color is purple, it was only fitting to paint them that shade. I added a special message for Emily and a fimo flower with a coat of Hippity Hop from Pam Heil's Girly Bits collection. Here's what it ended up looking like.....

From T-shirts (here) to ribbon stickers to bracelets (here), thousands of people have stepped up to show their support to this little girl who has captured the hearts of everyone.   I BELIEVE!!

Lillabet's Jubilee - butter London

It's been awhile since I've had a post. Sorry, but I've been super sick! But this post was definitely worth waiting for! Today, I have a gorgeous polish for you. It's called Lillabet's Jubilee. The color is a commemorative color in honor of the Queen of England's 60th anniversary of the accession to the throne. It's a silvery, lavender metallic foil, heavily infused with holographic glitter.

Anyone who knows me knows I love two things - butter London polish and anything to do with royals. I'm borderline obsessed with them. I stayed up and watched all 16 hours of William and Kate's wedding on BBC America. Yeah, that's dedication. So, when I saw that butter was coming out with a special lacquer in honor of the Queen, I knew I had to get it!

This polish is like all of the other butter London foil/metallic polishes I have. It is a one coater, but two will smooth out any bald spots or awkward looking stroke marks.

While the polish is drying, it may look more silver than lavender to you, but once it's totally dry, it definitely looks more lavender. But, it did get me thinking.... how close is this polish to Diamond Geezer, which is the silver foil that is a butter London staple.

I put them with a purple background, so that you can actually see the purple in Lillabet's Jubilee. They do look very similar together, but are definitely different.

The difference looks very subtle on camera, but they are definitely not the same. You can see the lavender metallic flakes in the polish.

All in all, I love this polish! I'm pretty much a sucker for anything butter London puts out. I especially love their foils (Diamond Geezer and Big Smoke are two of my faves). This polish doesn't disappoint. It's only available on butter London's website right now, but it may pop up in Nordstrom's and Ulta later. The same thing happened with No More Waity, Katie, another royal commemorative polish that butter put out last year in honor of the Royal Wedding.

Lynnderella - THANK BLUE

Today I got nail mail! I received my Lynnderella Wish List order from Llarowe. I picked up Thank Blue and The Glittering Crowd. I couldn't get over how awesome Thank Blue looked in the bottle. Pictures don't really do it justice, you have to see it in person to get what I'm saying. But I did take some photos to show, so here we go.

I have had three other Lynderella polishes. I swapped Choco-lotta Love, but still have Bibbity Bobbity Boo Blue and Connect the Dots. I have to say that Thank Blue is my favorite out of all of them. Since I had just put a coat of OPI's Dutch Ya Just Love OPI? on as the mailman was dropping off my package, I used it as my base.

I had intended to put The Glittering Crowd on all of my fingers, but put it on my ring fingers before deciding I had to try Thank Blue. That's what ended up on the rest of my fingers and it's gorgeous!!

Like I said, pictures don't really do it justice. It has several different colored glitters as well as holographic glitter, which makes it pop on any color. I'm going to try light blue and pink next to see what it would look like. But it's a definite one coater. Some glitters are hard to get on and you have to move them around with a brush. Not this one. It's probably the best glitter out of Lynn's line I have used.

The only seller of Lynnderella is Llarowe. You have to go through a wish list process. It can be time consuming, but it works. Since I'm a W last name, I was able to get both the polishes I wanted on the first try. I will have to wait for everyone to get what they wanted before I resubmit a new list. Some people had 10-12 polishes on their wishlists, but at $15 a pop, I didn't want to be stuck not being able to pay since I didn't know when I'd actually get an invoice. 

I have a couple of other colors I'd like to try, but for now, I'm happy with the two I got. Here is a closeup of The Glittering Crowd, which uses over 30 different types and colors of glitters.

It doesn't cover as well in one coat, so I would suggest two. This is one of the polishes Lynn is retiring, so the only way you'll be able to get one is by going on eBay or finding someone who is willing to swap it. I'm definitely holding on to this one!

Before I go, it's usually tradition for me to put up some puppy spam for all to see. We wouldn't be Puppies and Pawlish without it! But this week, I have a different kind of spam for you - hubby spam!! 

Last weekend, my husband Chris, who is the assistant sports editor at a local newspaper here, received the PWR Media Award of Excellence for his wrestling coverage. It's given to one writer every year at the Pennsylvania High School Wrestling Championships. Since I'm so proud of him, I wanted to show everyone a picture of him getting his award. He is on the right in the snazzy purple tie!

China Glaze - Magnetix Cling On

Today I have one of the new China Glaze Magnetix polishes for you. It's the green called Cling On. I wanted a nice green for my St. Patty's Day mani, so when my manicurist (the awesome Tammie at Nails by Nicci) suggested this, I was all for it.

For those of you who don't know about magnetic polish, basically it's a nail polish where you take a magnet and make awesome patterns with it. The China Glaze magnet (which is sold separately) has three different designs on it. I chose the one called attraction line.

As you can see, the result is AWESOME! I was Tammie's first mani using the polish and she did a great job!!  All you do is put the polish on one nail at a time. Once you have the polish on, you take the magnet and hold it close to the nail for 15 seconds. Then VOILA! you have a design or pattern.

I think it's a little easier when someone does it for you, so you aren't fumbling around with a magnet with wet nails. We used Essie base coat, one coat of Cling On and one coat of Seche Vite. 

The green really changes from a dark Army green to a light, goldish green.

There are six colors in the Magnetix collection - You Move Me (brown), Pull Me Close (blue), Instant Chemistry (wine), Drawn To You (purple) and Attraction (grey/silver). These can be purchased from Sally Beauty or Ulta.

All in all, I love this polish! I'm so sad I didn't pick it up when Sally's had their leap day sale! I can't wait to try some of the other colors as well. 

On a side note, I did get a fantastic gift from my awesome mother-in-law Lydia (Hi Lydia!) over the weekend. She bought me the turquoise Layla Magnetic polish. I'm going to try it next! 

Before I go, I have to share a funny picture with you all. You know the little mansky Zeke Wechtenhiser? Well I was out taking pictures today for my post and as I looked through them I noticed something funny......

Yep, I'm taking pictures as he non-chalantly moves into the frame and lifts his leg to go potty. Oh my, I laughed so hard. Apparently, he doesn't share his mommy's polish love!

China Glaze Prismatic - Liquid Crystal

Today I have an awesome glitter polish made by China Glaze for their Prismatic line called Liquid Crystal. Liquid Crystal is a bright blue holographic with purple tint dusted with silver, gold, green pink and orange glitter. In a nutshell.....it's pretty!!!

For the photos below I used OPI's Chip Skip, one coat of OPI Natural Nail Basecoat, one coat of Finger Paints Grape Gumball and one coat of China Glaze's Liquid Crystal.

This is an awesome color. It goes on smooth and you really only need one coat. Since I used a purple polish underneath, it pulls out more of the purple tones. If you use a blue or a silver, I'm assuming it will pull out more of those tones too.

There are six different shades of the Prismatics colors. I also have Optical Illusion, which is the green version. There is also a pink, silver, purple and gold.

Fantastic glitter bomb!

I picked this up during Sally Beauty's online sale for Leap Day. Apparently, they were supposed to be out until April, so they are no longer on the website. But they did honor all of the orders from Leap Day. I would say pick up the green and one of the others. The purple, blue and silver and gold all have the same tones of glitters in them, so you can get away with just one. The pink is the only one I'm on the fence about. 

All in all Puppies and Pawlish gives it two paws up!!
