Rainbow Honey - The Worst Possible Thing

Today I have for you a polish by Rainbow Honey! It's from her Equestria Collection inspired by My Little Pony. Now for those of you who grew up in the 80's you know how popular My Little Pony was. My first pony was Bow Tie. It was a blue pony with pink mane and tail and it had little pink bow ties on it. I loved My Little Pony growing up and I think my friend Sarah may have had one of the biggest collections I've ever seen!

But lets get to the polish! The Worst Possible thing is patterned after Rarity the pony. It has opalescent flakes in purple and blue and a multitude of holographic and iridescent glitters. In other words, it's awesome!

Since it's a layering polish, I decided to see what it would look like over Essie's Bikini So Teeny from their new summer collection. Bikini So Teeny is a pale blue, bordering on periwinkle.

I used two coats of The Worst Possible Thing over Bikini So Teeny. Rainbow Honey's formula is pretty awesome. The glitter goes on easy and you don't have to dab around to go over any missed bald spots. The only thing that's bad is that I got this one in a mini. While the brush is adequate, it's not very long, so I'm wondering how well it will pick up polish once it gets down some.

I'm a big fan of blues, so this caught my eye. I also picked up two more polishes from the Equestria collection, 20% Cooler and A Little Kindness. I also got a full-sized bottle of Koi Pond from a different collection. All of the polishes came in cute little boxes or mini ziplocs with the Rainbow Honey logo. Each bottle also had a cool identifying label on top.

All I can say is I love this!! I had such an easy time applying it and it looked great for almost five days before I chipped a nail and took it off. It glistens in the sun and it's hard to stop looking at your nails once it's on.

There are six core polishes in the collection and two special edition polishes that you get if you order the whole collection. I'm now kicking myself for not doing that. I'm a fan of indie polishes. But I've pretty much kept to buying indies from people I've known on the polish boards on Facebook. This was my first leap of faith on a brand where I didn't know the person making it. I definitely wasn't disappointed and plan to order more from Rainbow Honey in the future.

Rainbow Honey sells her large size (15 ml) polishes for $10 through her site. The smaller polishes (7ml) are $5. If you want to order the entire Equesteria collection, it's $70. I think the prices are extremely fair given the amount of time and effort that are obviously put into these polishes. Rainbow Honey is definitely right up there with some of my favorite indie brands like Girly Bits, SoFlaJo and Polished Components. 

All in all this is my favorite of the collection so far. I've had a little bit of a fail with 20% Cooler, trying it over a polish I didn't like, but I plan to keep experimenting with it. Happy to be BACK - Essie Off the Shoulder and Mojito Madness!!

Hi everyone!
I haven't posted in over six weeks. But I have an excuse. I spent a week in the hospital, two more weeks at home and the rest of the time getting caught up at work.
But thanks to my husband, puppies, painkillers and a stent in my kidney, I'm back!!!

While I was sick, I received two new polishes from Essie. The first one I got free as a promotion from Klout. It's basically an app that helps bloggers and others show how much influence they have on the different topics they talk about. In my case, puppies and nail polish. The other polish, I picked up at Target on one of my first days back out in the real world.

First up is the Essie I got as a freebie - Off The Shoulder

The package came with a press release about the new colors and one of the new colors. You didn't get a choice, but I was hoping for Off The Shoulder (dark hot pink), Mojito Madness (the green one) or Bikini So Teeny (the pale blue).

This is definitely a hotter pink that it looks in the picture. I've been trying to get used to my new camera and I'm still learning. Needless to say, I love this color! I like pinks, but only if they are the right shade. This is definitely a hot pink and it goes on great!

I also picked up Mojito Madness and Bikini So Teeny at Target for $8.00. I really like greens and blues, and I have a hard time finding greens that suit me.

Once again my camera let me down. Or rather I let it down. :-) Anyway, this is definitely more of a rich, pastel green.

Both of these polishes have really great formulas. I've seem to be hit and miss with essie even though I love their colors. It seems that some of the formulas are very thick and need thinned out, while others are perfect. For that reason, I've been buying essie when I see something I like.

I've also used Bikini So Teeny, but that's for a different post, because it also includes a Rainbow Honey polish!! Zeke and Brinlee gave that one two paws up each!

I do apologize for the grainy pics. I promise I'm getting much better with my new camera. Before I go, I want to show you this really cool ring I got.

My Family Ring!

I recently found a lady who makes mother's rings out of crystals and wire. I bid on an auction she had on Tophatter, which is an auction site for artisans and anyone who has something they want to sell. She made the ring with birthstones of my family! From left, are Chris (February), Brinlee (May), Zeke (December) and Me (August)! It's so totally cool and I've gotten alot of compliments on it. Just because you aren't a human child mom, doesn't mean you can't have fun things to represent your babies!

7 Random Facts

1. I love sports. I'm a sports editor at a local newspaper and I love my job. I've known since third grade that I wanted to be a sports writer. I went to school at Penn State and got my degree then came back home and started working at my local paper.


2. I'm a huge fan of the show Doctor Who. I've been watching the original since I was a kid. It used to be shown on Saturdays at 11 p.m. on PBS. Back then it took weeks to get through an episode. I do watch the newer version, although I confess I did boycott it for awhile. I love the new show, but the older version is still my favorite. In fact, I named my boston terrier, Zoey, after one of the characters.


3.  I'm a speed reader. No really. I read very quickly and can finish a very thick book in a couple of hours. My love of reading goes back to when I started getting my first books from my first grade class. I used to take one home, read it and bring it back the next day. My teacher didn't believe I read it, so she used to quiz me on what the book was about. I'm also a fantastic Jeopardy player because I can read the question before Alex Trebek even gets it out.


4.  I met my husband at a high school wrestling tournament. He was working at a different paper and we both were covering different schools at a regional tournament. I was deathly ill with pneumonia and he offered to finish my results up for me so I could go home. Later that year we started dating and got married in 2006. He's a fantastic husband and I'm lucky to have him.


5. My favorite color is blue. I love blue. My car is blue. My favorite baseball team's colors are blue. In fact, 80 percent of my wardrobe is blue. The colors in my wedding were blue. Well, you get the picture.


6.  I have an obsession with Uga, the mascot from the University of Georgia. My living room is painted Georgia red and I have photos of Uga up everywhere. My husband bought me my first one for our second Christmas together and I've continued to collect them. I even have a framed photo of Russ, the mascot who has been filling in while they find a new Uga.


7. I hate shoes and socks. I love being in my bare feet. I can't wear socks on my feet when I sleep, even in winter. It makes me feel too constricted. The day it gets even remotely warm enough for sandals, I put them on. I love to be able to wiggle my toes and walking in the grass in bare feet makes me happy.

1. Favorite Song: Come on Eileen. Followed very closely by Snoopy and the Red Baron. I love both songs and crank the radio up every time I hear them.

2. Favorite Dessert: Creme Brulee. I had it once at Disney World and now anytime a restaurant has it where I go, I get it. Love it!!

3. What drives you insane: People who abuse animals, especially dogs. I have complete faith that someday they will get what's coming to them.

4. When I'm Mad: Watch out. I can be a handful. But once I'm done, I don't hold a grudge.

5. Favorite pet: All my puppies!! Tuggers, Smidgens, Zoey, Zeke and Brinlee. They're all my favorites!

6.Black or white: White! Nothing looks better than a crisp white shirt with jeans.

7. Biggest fear: Slugs. No really. They scare the absolute crap out of me. I once had an anxiety attack so bad I almost passed out.

8. My daily attitude: Optimistic. 

9. What's perfect? My family. My husband and my puppies are the best things that have ever happened to me. I love them all immensely.

10. Guilt: iced tea, oreo blizzards and Ke$ha.

CATRICE - Blue Cara Ciao

A couple of weeks ago, I did a swap with my friend Laura from the Netherlands. She lives very close to Germany, so she has access to polishes like Catrice. For those who don't know about Catrice, it's a German-made brand that retails for around $3 US. Their formula is awesome and now I have several thanks to Laura!!

Today's polish is a blue called Blue Cara Ciao. It reminds me of what deep blue water looks like.

First off, let me say that I only had one Catrice before my swap with Laura and I loved it. The formula is awesome and I like the brushes even though they are smaller than OPI brushes. This too was a dream to apply.

For my base coat I used Essie's all in one base. Then I added two coats of Blue Cara Ciao and a top coat of Seche Vite. There are no problems with shrinkage like Seche seems to do with some other brands.

In the picture above, I filled in the spots where the flash looked funny. It bothered me to see so much white, so that's why the nails look almost matted.

Here's a pic of what the color looks like in natural light. It was dark out the day I took my pics, so I don't have any outdoors. This is a great blue. It's very vivid and I think it would look awesome on any skin type. For those ladies who haven't tried a true blue nail polish yet, this is a great shade to try. Although Catrice isn't sold in the United States, if you are involved on the polish boards and can find someone awesome like Laura, you may be able to do a swap!

Purple Nails for EMILY!!!

Today, I have a very special post for you!! I have been following the story of a local child who was diagnosed with leukemia. Emily Whitehead has not only become a very big inspiration to me, she has become my hero. Em is the toughest seven-year-old you will ever hear about. She has overcome the odds and her fight has become the fight of not only a small town and surrounding towns, but as you will see later on, worldwide.

In honor of Emily's seventh birthday, I have organized a worldwide Purple Nails for Emily Day today. Let me just say I was pretty overwhelmed with the response. I wasn't surprised at the local support for Emily. We live in a small town and it's just our nature to want to take care of one of our own. But when I started getting emails from across the country and foreign countries from people who wanted to take part, it literally made me teary-eyed.

I painted my nails with China Glaze Spontaneous. It's a beautiful purple color. And, since Emily's favorite color is purple, it was only fitting to paint them that shade. I added a special message for Emily and a fimo flower with a coat of Hippity Hop from Pam Heil's Girly Bits collection. Here's what it ended up looking like.....

Lillabet's Jubilee - butter London

It's been awhile since I've had a post. Sorry, but I've been super sick! But this post was definitely worth waiting for! Today, I have a gorgeous polish for you. It's called Lillabet's Jubilee. The color is a commemorative color in honor of the Queen of England's 60th anniversary of the accession to the throne. It's a silvery, lavender metallic foil, heavily infused with holographic glitter.

Anyone who knows me knows I love two things - butter London polish and anything to do with royals. I'm borderline obsessed with them. I stayed up and watched all 16 hours of William and Kate's wedding on BBC America. Yeah, that's dedication. So, when I saw that butter was coming out with a special lacquer in honor of the Queen, I knew I had to get it!

This polish is like all of the other butter London foil/metallic polishes I have. It is a one coater, but two will smooth out any bald spots or awkward looking stroke marks.

While the polish is drying, it may look more silver than lavender to you, but once it's totally dry, it definitely looks more lavender. But, it did get me thinking.... how close is this polish to Diamond Geezer, which is the silver foil that is a butter London staple.

I put them with a purple background, so that you can actually see the purple in Lillabet's Jubilee. They do look very similar together, but are definitely different.

The difference looks very subtle on camera, but they are definitely not the same. You can see the lavender metallic flakes in the polish.

All in all, I love this polish! I'm pretty much a sucker for anything butter London puts out. I especially love their foils (Diamond Geezer and Big Smoke are two of my faves). This polish doesn't disappoint. It's only available on butter London's website right now, but it may pop up in Nordstrom's and Ulta later. The same thing happened with No More Waity, Katie, another royal commemorative polish that butter put out last year in honor of the Royal Wedding.
